New Bag alert – Incoming.
The Selma bag is a mix between the Celine trapeze/luggage tote, and emulates the Prada Saffiano tote because of the same leather. Saffiano leather is a leather that has been treated to look like a canvas. Very similar to the Louis Vuitton bags, which are actually just canvas not leather. While it has the same features as these £1000 plus bags from Celine and Prada, it holds its own by being very recognisably a ‘Selma’ bag. Michael Kors is knocking it out of the park with very affordable collection Michael by Michael Kors. Notable mentions are the ‘Hamilton’ Tote, the ‘Jet set’ Tote and the ‘Sophie’ bag (which I have my eye on already). The range of bags are well made, value for money and come in lust worthy editions with new colours each season.
These bags are quite popular with the young professional ladies of London, and I generally see a black or navy on a day to day basis (navy is a gorgeous shade in the MK range if you like navy btw). While I like a navy or black bag I have been craving this bag in a bright colour, in the pictures its coming off as quite pink. It’s actually a very orange/red and the colour is called ‘Mandarin’. I have never owned a red bag before, and had my reservations about being able to carry this on a day to day basis. However I have found after one week of toting this about, dressing for a red bag really isn’t difficult Especially if you wardrobe is made up with grey or blue, like mine is.
The bag is very heavy so you do need to be careful how much you pack in there. From the picture you can see it a lot in there already and it’s heavy. I could probably squeeze in a couple of more items if I wanted to.
I have in my bag as the moment:
1. A magazine Allure my fav.
2. A kindle with cover. The kindles with a keyboard.
3. Note book Symthson
4. Brollie
5. Sunnies Raybans and case
6. Pen
7. Concealer By terry radiant concealer pen
8. Lipstick chubby stick ‘motherplucker’ soap and glory in ‘plum-ful’
9. Louis Vuitton Sarah Wallet in multi-coloured
10. Louis Vuitton Key holder in mulit coloured
11. Wide toothed comb and hairbands
12. Bobbi Brown pressed powder
13. Tissues
14. Hay fever tablets
15. Fan
16. Anti-Bacterial Hand Maid Soap and Glory
17. Hand food Soap and Glory
18. Oyster card
19. Iphone 5 not pictured as I am using it to take pictures.
The bag is really structured, probably one of the most structured bags I own. I am really enjoying how it stands up on its own, on four little gold feet to protect the leather.
The lining is a pale beige so makes it easier to find stuff. It also has a multitude of pockets (5 plus one zipped one) and a little lead to clip your keys on. It has a lot of space to store things in.
One of the things that really sold this bag to me is how comfortable it is to carry. A lot bags with a shoulder strap really dig in, and you are unable to carry cross body if you need to. Carrying the bag on the shoulder is comfortable, and I like to hook my thumb in one of the wings while I walk. While I wouldn’t carry this cross body as it is only comfortable when you move the bag to your back, (which I wouldn’t do in London due to thieves) if you had to jump on a bike you could manage very nicely. Dependant on weight, the bag is very comfy on the crook of your arm as well, and really is the ideal bag to do this with.
The leather really fan-fricking-tastic. On the first night I used this bag, I ended up having one pint of cider too many with the hubbie, and then subsequently ordered Mac Donalds on the last tube home. I managed to get special burger sauce all over the back of the bag. This then translated into a big black greasy stain the day after, and I was heartbroken. However after a couple of hours googling how to get out oil stains I managed to remove the entire stain, with some water, oddly eye make-up remover(non-oil formula like Bioderma) and a couple of ear buds. It is as good as new. I also like how the leather is water and scratch resistant. I really hate buying a leather bag and then getting scratches on it the first day of use. The leather is really amazing and durable especially for someone like me who puts her bags through the paces.
The bag retails for £315, however I managed to get a big discount for this as the bag was marked on the back in black (not noticeable) and was the last one in store. If you are looking for a good day bag, to take to drinks, to take to work, this is a practical and chic choice. At £315 it is in the mid-range of bags, but is a really good investment.
What are your new objects of lust this summer, and any Michael Kors fans out there? Or have your already given in and bought the object of your affection?
Thanks for reading
Carrie x
