Boyfriend jeans
I can’t recall when boyfriend jeans came on my radar. But having gone back through the back log of denim that I own from Gap and Topshop I can see that the shapes have been changing ever so slightly with each season moving towards the slacks of a 13 year old boy.
I love me a skinny jean but there is something about the nonchalance
of the boyfriend jean that just appeals to my sensibilities. It has
that whole ‘I am so sexy I can pull off boys trousers and still pull you whilst
drinking a pint a beer’ vibe about it. I
try to dress with an opposing ideal when I get up in the morning. So if I have ripped denim on I try to wear a
tailored shirt, or something really soft and ethereal. If I have a pleated skirt on, I try and
contrast it with a vintage tee.
Boyfriend jeans create the perfect opportunity for this. They go well with high heels, if you google boyfriend
jeans and heels you will see a GAZILLION perfect examples of this. They go well with feminine floaty tops and
with a structured blazer. I like to wear
my ripped at the knee ones with a lacy black top milkmaid braids and converse. This is my current pub/wine bar ‘outfit du
jour’. Alternatively you can just go
whole hog and chuck on the boyfriend tee and Birkenstocks. To keep it feminine I layer on the jewellery
or let me hair down. I am really into
that perfect mix of tomboy grunge and girly wimseyness. Hence the braids and converse, we should be
able to have it all right ladies?
Always keep them
cuffed, I don’t care if it’s raining, you are going to look like some early
90s throw back if you unroll your jeans.
Buy them a size up or
down. This is really dependant on
body shape, but something to consider when buying these. Some cuts are meant to be close fitting, and
others are on the baggy size. Go with
you instinct on this one.
If you have a baggy
pair try an pair with a fitted, or slim line top. As with mini-skirts and shorts, if something
is tight on top have it loose on the bottom.
If something is tight on the bottom have it loose on top. There are no hard and fast rules about it but
this is a general rule I try to adhere to. (And there are always exceptions to
the rule as well.)
Look 1 Pub outfit
du jour. I can drink beer, go bowling,
and run away from zombies in this outfit. Lacy
top Whistles, Toms and Gap jeans
I apologise for the photos I look as awkward as. I must improve my pictures.....
Look 2 I am a
teenage boy but I have really long hair.
I have ‘just burnt all of my dresses’ look. Gap
jeans again, vintage Tee and Converse
Look 3 I am a Frenchwoman
who just ate a whole patisserie shop but it’s okay look at my stripy top! I am
cool really I am Gap jeans, Cos stripy top and some loubo heels from my 21st bday.
Comfort factor: Well
as much as I like a skinny jean my bottom half of my body does not contain the
assets I like the best. I am pear shaped
so to wear lycra on my bottom half wears thin sometimes where I am not thin,
har har get it? Wearing thin? With the
boyfriend jean I feel comfortable and generally I think only people who are
comfortable in their clothing look good. BF jeans have the universal appeal to skinny
minnies and pear shaped ladies like myself.
Perhaps all boyfriend jean might not fit you if you are over a size 10,
but I defy you not to find a pair that are perfect for you. Like the skinny jean dilemma 7 years ago, I
didn’t think I would find a pair of skinnies that would suit me but eventually
I did.
Both of mine are distressed and despite patient waiting I
haven’t come across a pair in dark blue denim that don’t have holes in
them. I think by next spring/summer they may have
these back in in stock but until then I am enjoying what I have at the moment. If you sign up to vouchercodes.co.uk there is ALWAYS a gap voucher, or deals on the
website. So if you can wait it out you can usually get 15-20% off.
Are you lock stock in the new Boyfriend jean, or are you
still into your skinnies? Love to hear what is on your denim radar at the
moment.
Thanks for reading
