The Skincare Game Changers
I recently went to a 30th birthday party for a school friend of mine. There were so many people who I hadn’t seen for about 6-8 years and we had definitely all aged, got skinner, got nicer, got funnier, got longer hair, etc, etc. Pick one of the above. Not to blow my own horn here but the most comments I got for my appearance was “You haven’t changed a bit, how the heck did that happen?!”. I had one person started to poke my face to see if I was using botox, yeah right like I can afford that stuff. This is what prompted this post, one because I was extremely flattered and two so I can share my ‘limited’ knowledge about skincare.
So our skin is a bit like our weight, we all gripe and moan about it, and are never happy. I have really spotty skin, I have really large pores, I have flakey skin, oily skin, wrinkly skin, etc, etc.
We all try and to achieve beautiful flawless skin, you eat right, you sleep a dutiful 7-8 hours a night, you drink lots of water, you exercise, you stop smoking, you put on the SPF 25 every day and give up the Starmix Harribo. So why the heck is it not showing up on your face after 6 weeks? Why am I still, spotty, dry, greasy, or wrinkly???!!!?.................
Have you looked at your skincare recently? I think the biggest change to my beauty regime that changed from my 20s to my 30s is how I treat my skin. I think the biggest revelation was that my skin changed on a seasonal basis and the Clinique 3 step was just not cutting it any more. I really struggled to find the right moisturiser, as I was constantly dry in the winter and greasy in summer. I didn’t wash my face properly so I ended up with more spots than I should have. I didn’t exfoliate correctly, and thought that peach kernel scrub by St Ives was covering all my exfoliating needs. I didn’t pay attention to what I was using in my skin care, and was sticking copious amounts of mineral oil on my face on a daily basis.
You cannot use that adage of “if it’s expensive it must do something” .This is completely not the case don’t just blindly buy a brand name, don’t just use what you have been using since you early 20s, or what your Mum uses. Your skin changes so much seasonally, think how much it changes as you get older?
What because a ‘game changer’ for me was when I stumbled across Caroline Hirons.
I really pulled my socks up after reading her blog.
Caroline is an expert skincare specialist and third generation beauty consultant. But to really to get the benefit of what she advises please check her blog out. A lot of expensive skin care out there is just so not worth it, as Caroline will tell you. About 3 months ago I had a major overhaul of my skincare. I finished up everything that I shouldn’t have been using and started afresh. This is what I ended up with, and this is what is making my skin so amazing at the moment.
1.Cleanser, Emma Hardie Moringa Balm. (okay that is not the full name but it’s a bit of mouthful)£34 Space NK in store and online, feel Unique.
This is balm for your face. It smells amazing, and really cleanses your face properly. You wipe all of this off with a warm flannel cloth. Prior to this I was just using a splash of water to clean off all of the cleanser off my face. This apparently does not get everything off, doh. If you cannot afford this I would recommend that you start using your current cleanser with a flannel cloth and note the difference. I don’t use the proper Emma Hardie flannels, I just use Primark ones. They do that same thing.
2.Toners Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Brightening Toner. £25 Boots and most department stores.
I also thought Toner as a frivolous step in your skin care regime. Caroline recommends this on her website, and apparently this is the most searched item. I like the smell of this, it’s fruit juicy and I have noticed a real difference to my skin with this. It contain acids to exfoliate the skin, and takes away that awkward peach scrub stage in my previous skin care routine.
3.The Skincare ‘Layering Product’, Hydrulon by Indeed Labs £25 Boots in store and online.
Okay so I thought this was a bit of con, but on one sad Wednesday afternoon I bought it to cheer myself up. In Skincare a lot of bloggers talk about Layering their skin care. So if cleanser and moisturiser are the bits of metaphorical bread in your routine the Hydrulon is definitely the ham. It works as a primer for your moisturiser if that makes sense? You put this on your face and then your moisturiser and your moisturiser just absorbs into your skin so perfectly.
I find on days that I don’t use this my makeup just doesn’t sit right on my face.
4. For that something little extra -Alpha H Liquid Gold. Yes I am going to jump on the bandwagon and rave about this beauty. £30 price varies according to what website you get in on, and what size. Cult Beauty, Feel unique, Amazon.
My goodness what a fantastic product. This is an extra exfoliating brightening treatment that I have been using 2-3 times a week to really clear out my skin and slough away all the dullness. This has really refined my skin, my spots have cleared up so much, pores are smaller, and I my skin is so glowly. This work alot like the toner, it contains Glycolic Acid. This acid eats away at all the dead skin cells, and helps with spots on your face. I don't know the exact science behind but its brilliant and it works! I tend to put this on my face and then go to bed. You can add a night moisturiser, but on its own it works as a stronger treatment.
I so hope that was helpful to you all. I really recommend that you read Caroline’s blog, and try and see her at one of her events. She will currently talking about skin care this Thursday 6th of June at 6pm-9pm at Selfridges beauty shop.
Thanks all
Love
