Bumble and Bumble surf spray. I FINALLY know how to use this!! WOW!

Bumble and Bumble surf spray.  I FINALLY know how to use this!! WOW!

I have had this for about 8 months and rarely used it.  Simply because I just couldn’t figure out how you are meant to use it.  I was kinda gutted, although I got it a bit cheaper off Amazon (£12 I think?) for the bigger bottle.  I got this simply on all the rave reviews it has, so I was annoyed it didn’t initially live up to the hype.  Just to illustrate how ridiculous I am, while I was in the US I saw a cute mini version of this for $8 in Sephora, and wanted to buy it, before I realised that I didn’t like this product.  Duh.   I am total sucker for anything in miniature form, products, dogs, pigs, ponies.

Anyone who knows me, especially my hair dresser, know that I am such a lazy person when it comes to my hair.  Which is surprising seeing as I own a whole bunch of hair care products.  40% of those are styling products which lie unloved in that drawer.  I clearly have a weakness for hair products,  but then who doesn’t?  You wear your hair every day, it’s an accessory in itself and who doesn’t buy into a hair product which will transform, enhance your barnet into something else?

In this month’s Allure magazine there was a general article on Californian living.  One snippet was of course is the ubiquitous salt spray for hair, to achieve that  tousled the beach hair which everyone loves.  This inspired me to dig this out this morning and spritz it in my hair and give it a second chance.  So glad I did.

For reference my hair is boob length, dark almost black brown.  It is really fine and wavy, but I have a lot of strands even though it’s thin.  This is my ethnic legacy of having a Chinese Mum (poker straight and lots of it) and a British Dad (who had fine curly hair).  So in my teens I had this sort of 70s wave bouffant which I HATED, this was the era of ‘Jennifer Aniston’ poker straight hair and no matter how many blow dries or babylis steamed straightener I pulled through it, it still ended up all over the place.  By the time I was 16 I just gave up and just let my hair do its own thing, hence why I am lazy with it.

My preference is that my hair has movement and doesn’t feel crispy, greasy, just soft, wavy, and I can still run my fingers through it.  I don’t mind a little product but I hate it when it’s overloaded with product and stiff, unless it’s in a up do in which case I don’t give a monkeys.  Monkeys can’t paw their hair if it’s pinned up out of reach, if you get me.

So in the article is says to spray upwards into your hair WHEN damp.  It’s made 100% difference to how my hair is.   I had been spraying this on when it was just styled after the hair dryer, and it went all horrid and crispy.  I mean it looked nice with the wavy curls and whatnot but I just felt like I had a bunch of crispy shredded peking duck, textured hair in my face.  Also I couldn’t run my fingers through it, urgh!
The difference when its damp is that the water in your hair I guess dilutes the product, so while you achieve the hold for the waves and a bit of that salty texture at the end there is no CRISP factor.  Huzzarh!

Because my hair is still damp I twisted it up in a little bun at the base of my neck and let it dry naturally on the way to work.  I took it down a couple of hours ago, and LOVE my hair today.   Beach babe waves  in that artfully tousled look that doesn’t try too hard.  No one likes a try hard after all.

Hope that was helpful?  Hopefully someone out there is as gormless as I am at using styling products.   I think for me I should have just kept on experimenting with this until I learnt how to use it, but as stated before Lazy.
Thanks for reading
