The problem with Denim Shorts

One of the first things I wrote about on my blog was denim shorts.  Due to the nature of the post, and the fact I had expletives littered throughout I took it down as Google has kittens every time someone types a swear word.

I don’t have a model body, even my best friend could describe me as slender.  Which is fine. I embrace my curves and love myself for who I am, I send out my cosmic love fart into the universe blah, blah. (okay I am serious, and not serious about this.  If you have been reading my blog long enough you know I do get very touchy feeling sometimes, okay well a lot geez give a girl a break already)

However, having a good dollop of self-love for yourself, unfortunately does not mean that the high street is ready to accommodate you and,  make shorts for the rotund of bottom, and chunky of thigh.  (aka my body type)  Shorts are a nightmare to find for me.  Short shorts look obscene on me, and Bermuda shorts look ridiculous.  Between those two types of short out there at the moment there is no in-between.  That is, there WAS no in-between until I found these bad boys……………….

I was very excited to find these in Topshop the other day.  Hallie extracted denim shorts £30.  http://www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/moto-extracted-hallie-shorts-2705859

One of my favourite bloggers (www.viviannadoesmakeup.com) had raved about these a few days ago, so while I was in Topshop browsing I tried these on in the fitting room.  Honestly I didn’t really expect much given my body shape, but I was pleasantly surprised.  I don’t look ready to walk the catwalk, but by the same merit I don’t look like I going to shift the earth’s gravitational pull with my centre of gravity.  If you catch my drift?  I bought these in the size up, so the size 14 so they sit on my hips as opposed to my waist.

The shorts themselves are artfully distressed, and made of a soft pale denim.  On the first day of wear I took a nap in them that’s how comfy they are.  The length is still short, but they are that magical in-between length that has eluded me for so long.   The length at the back is perfect, and I feel very well covered.   I think I must be doing something right, as my husband who usually does not pay attention to my clothes loves them.

Am I the only one with shorts problems?  Have you got a pair of these, or do you intent to hot foot it to Topshop now?  There are plenty online including this darker pair which I have been eyeing up.

Life at the moment - Make up pairings

Good Afternoon Folks

Sorry for the radio silence.  I have had a lot on at the moment.  I am currently in the process of moving flats so I have been getting rid of some stuff, tidying the flat and getting myself ready for the massive up-heaval.

Last week I got made redundant from my job, so I have been trying to come to terms with that in my head.  Due to not having a job I have been running around London trying to get my CV and face out there to as many interviews and job agencies as possible.  Which is completely exhausting as one, you have to meet new people, two behave like a shiny flying unicorn in the hopes that they will hire you, and/or find a job for you quickly.   The interview process is like trying to the following all at the same time: herd cats, do algebra, tie your shoelace with one hand, put your contact lenses in your eyeballs, make people like you. OH and don't forget to relax and let your PERSONALITY shine through on top of all that psstkkt.  Easier said than done people.
When I haven't been performing in front of new people like a perfoming multi-trick pony, I have been upping my fitness in a desperate effort to get myself out of bed in the morning.  One day I ran 7 miles and then decided to do some pretty seriously hard yoga lesson 4 hours later.  Needless to say just thinking about my arms makes them hurt.   I must be a complete dummy because I have signed up to do some pilates as well today at 4pm....
Anyhoo I digress....I am writing this post simply because I have stumbled upon a couple of products that just work perfectly together.  Some of these products I have had difficulty using but, when paired with something else suddenly become a 'go-to' item that is used a lot more.

Diorskin Nude BB creme with Kiehls Micro Blur Skin perfector.
What is better than one skin perfecting product?  Two skin perfecting products paired together makes fully awesome (say awesome in high pitched american voice).  The effect of these together produces a very glowy even texture.  The two products enhance the best parts about each other but doubletime bro. A definite must if you own both of these.

Blink Eyebrow pencil and Maybelline Brow drama sculpting brow mascara.
I got sold this eyebrow pencil about a year ago during an eyebrow defuzzing session and completely forgot about it.  One day I decided to give it a go, and the shade that I have 'cardamon pod' is the perfect dark brown-grey black I've ever come across.  It is the perfect shad for me.  Paired with the brow drama equals perfect Cara brows for the day that don't smear, don't budge.

Baby Lips in Cherry Me and Nars Schiap lipstick
So I have owned Nars Schiap lipstick for a while now.  I love the colour, the opaqueness, the formula.  Unfortunately it does not love me very much.  Despite being a blue based cool pink it simply does not work on me which applied straight from the tube.  I just look weird.  However mixed with and sheered out with Baby lips it is a much more wearable colour for me.  Very happy to stumble upon this pairing.

Mac Woodwinked eyeshadow and Urban decay underground
So it's summer and I have pretty much been sporting a typical 'bronzy eye' all month.  Most days I have been pairing Woodwinked with Underground 24/7 eyeliner.  Woodwinked is a very popular shade at Mac, the reason being its a brown gold dual-chrome eyeshadow.  So when applied it looks like you have applied two eyeshadows instead of one, dependent on how the light catches your eyelid.  Underground is a dark gold/bronze which when I apply it I put on a thick line of it one and blend it with the eyeshadow.   It create definition to the eyes and make a subtle smoky bronze eye look.

What are your ultimate make up pairings?  Any ideas to share with me?

thanks for reading.

Gloanna 5K Yoga Run

So in my usual fashion before most races I tend to get a bit overexcited that it is the weekend. Which in my book means that I go out for a social beer, or a meal out, and end up traipsing in the front door in the wee hours.   I think it’s the prospect of having a whole 48 hours to do whatever I blooming like that leads to it.  I don’t know why I do this to myself, I clearly cannot bounce back from benders like I used to…….

Last Friday eve, my husband and I caught up with some good friends, and well one thing lead to another.  (It involved a lot of old skool RnB and copious amounts of gin)  I ended up getting to bed at 3.30am on Saturday morning.   I had a race start of 8.30am in Battersea park.  To say I felt rough, would have been a minor understatement.   I was very tempted to blow the whole thing off and stay in bed, however I had invited two of my good friends along to the event so off I went.

After spending most of the journey from SE London to SW London feeling like I was going to vom at any second I finally found my friends.   We headed to the venue, checked in our bags in the tent.   After a quick warm up we were handed a shot of Prosecco, which instantly gave me hair of the dog.  I started to feel a lot better.   When I woke I fully intended to walk the whole 5k, but found myself running non-stop, and finishing within 30mins.  Not bad for a hungover bum monkey.

We then had a 45mins session of yoga al fresco which was truly excellent.   I haven’t practiced any yoga for about 18months.  After one too many bad experiences at the Bikram Yoga clasess, I decided to turn my back on the yoga.   The teacher was very funny and lead us through a series of sun salutations, by the end of it I felt calm and soothed.  By this point the hangover had disappeared and I felt like a million bucks.

After both exercise sessions my friends and I found some bean bags to sit on and catch up.  It was very chilled and really lovely environment.   The organisers did feed us quite a bit of food along with freebie of bounce balls and Vitacoco juices.   (I totally stocked up)  The sushi they served us was lovely.  After the food my friends and I decided to have a go at hula hooping lessons that were also taking place.  My friend Katie was an absolute pro at it, and we had a complete blast laughing while we did this.  To top the event off we were given a lovely goody bag with running socks, a water bottle and a sweaty betty vest.

The whole morning was brilliant, and I had an absolute ball.   If any of you see this event for next year I do recommend that you go, it is so much fun.

Any yoga, running events you are going to this summer?  Do tell?

Five dresses you need to own.

Dear All,

Thank you for putting up with my tardiness again this week.  Finding a flat, life and running schedule has just taken over a bit this week.  So thank you for your patience.
With a heatwave descending on London, I have been forgoing my jeans in favour of a dresses.  I know a lot of ladies hate wearing dresses, however in terms of practicality a dress is the most logical choice.  One item of clothing that does not need to be coordinated with something else.

Due to aforementioned point I have literally a gazillion dresses in my wardrobe. Some expensive, some cheap, some given to me, some borrowed from my Mum.   Out most of what I wear I have narrowed down the shapes that for me are easiest to wear, and that I keep coming back to year after year.

The Wrap

There are number of variations on this amazingly flattering dress, but the original for me is Diane Von Furstenberg.  This is my first ever wrap dress from DVF and I bought this on sale reduced to £165, from £300.  I simply adore all the amazing prints that these dresses come in.  I feel incredibly confident every single time I wear it.   Easy to fling on for a night out, and very comfortable to wear.  This has been my default going out dress for the past 6 weeks or so and I love it.

The Slip

This is harking back to the 90s a bit, however it’s staying power is due to its versatility.  Simply put a very handy dress to have in your wardrobe arsenal.  Easy to wear alone or with a sheer t-shirt over the top.  Or with a Kimono or waist coat.  I have worn this so many times this summer, and is so versatile.   I imagine that this will be worn a lot in the winter too with a jumper and ankle booties.   This version is in Silk, so cool for the summer, or a luxe addition paired with a wooly jumper.

The T-shirt

This is a very old dress that I unearthed from my bag of summer clothes.  This is something that I wear nearly EVERY summer.   It is such a pivitol part of my wardrobe that I don’t notice it, like sock or a vest top.   The benefits to the T-shirt dress is another very easy to throw on, and good for keeping cool in the heat. I also like this as a pool or beach side cover up.   I have the same dress at this in navy, black that are a bit longer and really useful for summer wear.

The Shift/Shirt/Tunic dress

So a dress that hits three categories in one.  This is a very comfortable dress to wear.  I got it from Allsaints during winter time 2012.  I had a work function to attend and I was feeling a bit fat, and flabby at the point.  This was before my running habit.   This skims the body of all lumps and bumps, and is very flattering as it hangs from the narrowest part of the body.  Which in my case is the bust.  With this type of dress one can dress up or dress down, dependant on accessories.

The Maxi

The maxi is one of my favourite type of dress.  I have three in my arsenal that I wear year in year out.   This is one that I got last year from Warehouse.  The print reminds me of Dutch Delft pottery.   I have worn this to weddings, on the beach and to various BBQs and parties.  It is fail safe summer dress.

What dress shapes are your staples?  Are you enjoying the weather?

Thank you for reading

Discounting myself and my achievments...........

Yeah this is one of those posts, the touchy-feeling ones. I think a bunch of you know that I like to torture myself on a regular basis with long runs.   I can’t really explain why I do it but there is definitely something about it that keeps me coming back for more and more.   After completely Hackney half, about a two weeks later I did the 10k Race for life on Blackheath.   I did something really stupid and went out the Saturday afternoon before and have 6 pints with my Husband and a friend.  Completely forgetting that Sunday was a race day.  DOH.

Needless to say at 9.30am I felt rough as a badger’s bottom, but dragged myself to the start line and, did it and, managed to knock off two minutes my personal best.  I went home that morning very pleased with myself.

The hackney run I didn’t smash any person bests simply because I was overwhelmed by the heat and lack of water.  I gained 8 minutes overall and was really disappointed with myself after.  Which is totally ridiculous!  I had just finished a half marathon and didn’t pass out, puke, injury myself.  I am a total machine surely?

So why did I feel disappointed?  I think a lot of runners run for pleasure, but there is a large amount of runners out there who just concentrate on beating their time.  I didn’t beat my PB so I felt like a loser instead of a winner.  However I realise this is wrong, and I realise that discounting my achievement is wrong as well.  One thing I didn’t consider is that Hackney Half Marathon may be my last marathon, I may never ever get to run again.  Life is long and full of surprises, so instead of beating myself up for not beating my PB.  Really I should be congratulating myself that I did it.

Hopefully Hackney is not my last one, as yesterday I just signed up for Wimbledon Half Marathon on the 27th of July and Ealing Half Marathon on the 28th of September.  I was being a bit fatalistic to check my attitude, but hopefully you get my drift.

Are any of you have a love affair with running?  Any good races lined up?

A sonnet to the Denim Jacket: The virtues of skin tight vs 80s slouchyfit

The backstory…………………

Skin tight

One of the oldest items in my wardrobe is a next denim jacket that I bought with my first paycheck from sainsburys.   Somehow at the tender age of 16 I realized that I was missing this key cornerstone in my wardrobe and needed it ASAP.  I remember lusting after a sheepskin Levi one that my friend Charis had and looked like the dogs in, but my small meagre paycheck wouldn’t stretch to the lofty prices of levis, and I didn’t want to blow everything on a jacket, so off to the shops in Aberdeen I went.

I think it cost me £25, it wasn’t more than £30.  I also got some fetching pale blue sparkly bootcut jeans from River island and a lilac tie dye tank top from Gap.  Those jeans used to deposit sparkles wherever I went, and I remember the top button was made out of a Gem stone.  Man I was SO COOL.  At least I thought I was.  I really wish I had taken some awful photos of myself then to show you but hey ho, all embarrassing photos of my Bewitched inspired outfit will be forever lost in the realms of the past.  (Thank God!)  I have no idea where the jeans went, but I sometimes think of that tank top still and how much I liked it, how much I like it still.

Anyhoo the denim jacket has remained with me and has managed to evade the charity shop for the past two decades.  The reason why?  Because its dark denim and is skin tight.  I used to be a lot smaller in my teens and could button it up and move around quite comfortably.  Today is fits very close, almost cutting of circulation but not quite.   I like to where it with a giant white shirt dress, and it still looks as good as it did with my sparkly bootcut jeans.

Why it’s awesome…….

I love a tiny tight denim jacket as it enables you to play with lengths.  If you have something long and baggy on you can cut out your shape by throwing this on top.

It is the perfect summer accompaniment to any floral summer dress

It is probably the one thing in your wardrobe that has gone through all your youth and carries with it your own personal history.   Like your early style DNA is embedded in this piece of fabric.

Due to its age it’s like putting on a baby blanket.

The backstory……………………..

80/90s slouchy fit

This has recently come back in fashion.  All the Shoreditch lot have been sporting a giant 80s vintage jackets, and I love it.   One of the first denim jackets I owned belonged to my Dad, and even during the mid 90s I sported that HUGE jacket with pride.  I don’t know what happened to that jacket but I suspect that the wardrobe elves squirreled this away somewhere.  Or my Dad nicked it back?  Who knows?  This new Levis one is one that I did source very un-originally from Urban outfitters renewal.  However out of the fify squillion that were there.   I tried ALL of them on, looking for the softest, slouchiest one to bring home with me.

Why it’s awesome………….

Another comfort blanket to wear only this one covers a lot more of you.

If you are wearing quite tight outfit this is the perfect counterbalance to off-set your outfit.

Everyone is looking for the exact same jacket as you, get yours before it becomes too mainstream.

You can channel your inner Madonna and start drying your hair on a hand dryer in the toilet.  Say what you want about the 80s I think that look is still killer, and despite it being a really bizarre thing to do she still looks really cool doing it.   It doesn’t work the same when I try and stick my head in a dyson hand dryer…..just saying

I have taken to sticking loads of badges on the pocket, because it’s something I used to do in the 90s.  Anyone else do that when they were a kid?

Do you have a denim jacket, one or both?

Have you tried to dry your hair under a hand dryer?

Empties No: 2

Happy Monday All
So I seem to be going through a lot of my products recently.  Which makes me happy that I am using it all up, rather than it gathering dust on the shelf, unloved and neglected.

 Sarah Chapman hydration boaster £57

The older more expensive sister to Hydraluron.   Pretty pricey but, pretty special.   I went through this stuff very quickly in 5 months, but it is really lovely on the skin.  It is the essential step in my morning skin care routine.  In terms of performance I don’t think this does a better job than Hydraluron, however I prefer it simply because of the experience.   Both products deliver the same results however Sarah Chapman smells nicer and doesn’t dry out on the skin as soon as you apply it.   However it is eye-watering expensive so I will just be sticking with Hydraluron from now on.

Sarah Chapman Overnight facial £45

This is like every single facial oil that I own added together in one bottle.   I like the smell, I don’t really enjoy the greasy feel when you apply it, but I love the results the morning after.   This is the stuff that makes you look like you  have had a good nights sleep even if you have been up since 2 in the morning listening to the neighbours argue.   Like the Hydrating boaster, this is another very good product.  However I only owned this for a couple of months (5) before it ran out, so in terms of cost per use, I really cannot afford to keep buying this twice a year.

Porefessional by Benefit £24

One of the best primers I have come across.  It does feel very slippy and silicon-y however as a very greasy faced individual I find it works really well for me.   Paired with most BB creams and foundations it works really well.  I had this tube for about a 18 months before finishing this.  So in terms of cost and usage it really lasted a long time.

Tocca Guiletta £54

One of my signature scents and favourite perfume.  This is a very delicate flora perfume which has Ylang ylang, rose, lily of the valley and apple.   It’s one of those scents which is very hard to place which floral is dominate, but somehow just works with everything going on.  Tocca do some really brilliant perfumes, that are pretty unique.

Clarins Brightening Toner £25

This was my exfoliating toner which I used instead of the Pixi glow tonic.  This is a good acid based toner which brightens the skin by chemically sloughing off the dead skin cells.  This is another Caroline Hirons recommendation.  Its good and if I can’t find the Pixi tonic again I would definitely get this.  They are one and same, however the glow tonic is cheaper.   Due to the price point I will be going for Pixi if I can get my hands on it.

By Terry Concealer touch expert £32

This is one of my favourite under eye concealer.  This is very opaque but a very light texture.  So it is very good at covering dark circles without clogging in fine lines under the eye.  I finished about a month ago, and wasn’t going to repurchase this.   However I found that I missed it a lot on a day to day basis that I got another one.   This does last for a long time considering I first got this in April last year, and pretty much use it every day.  If you are looking for a nice light but strong concealer from a pen dispenser try this out.   The colour range is pretty good as well as I find the colour of this matches my-hard-to-match skin tone already.

What have you finished up this month?  Any more repurchases?

Summer footwear

Not sure about you folks but I really do struggle with summer footwear. I do so enjoy going into office or dune and looking at all the pretty summer sandals.  I like them all, gladiators, embellished, wedges, and the plan ugly orthopaedic sandal that seems to be in fashion now.

However what stops me from buying is after years and years of buying a new summery sandal, I always find that they rub and blister me to death.  By the end of the summer when I do my bi-annual closet cull they are relegated to the charity shop.
What do I always reach for year after year are three staple shoes.

Birkenstocks

I have been wearing these for years and I have three pairs in different colours but the black version are my favourite.  Not the prettiest sandal out there but definitely the most comfortable.

Toms

Buy one and give one the ethical choice for a summer slip on.  Really comfortable, affordable and come in a multitude of colours and textures.

Havianas flip flops

The only rubber flip flop I buy.  I have had this particular pair since 2004 and the sole is nearly paper thin.   If you are ever in brazil load up on these are they are cheaper there than they are here.

What are your summer footwear staples?

Wardrobe rules after you are 30….rules what rules?

So I am 31, thought I would put it out there..........

I am interested in this topic because of my age, and also because I feel like I still haven’t reached that age where I should be dressing a certain way for my age.  I can dress like a lady, but I also like to dress like a teenage boy as well much to the dismay of my mother and husband.  This is something I researched on before posting about it.  By research I mean I googled to death.  What I found is that there are more wardrobe rules advice for men past 30, than there are for women past 30.  I am happy to see in this instance that blog posts for dressing after 30 for women, are phrased in a more passive way.  As in : ‘Dressing appropriately for your age.’  Or ‘What to let go when you reach 30.’   I was glad to see no one laying down the law of the land.  Although I know that is what people used to do 40 -50 years ago.

However there are few things that I have seen which prompted me to write this blog post and which I totally retaliate against.

1.      No Converse past the age of 25.  I read this ‘pearl of wisdom’ from “Paris Street Style” written by a bunch of girls who haven’t had a decent meal since 1998.   Don’t get me wrong it is a fantastic book, and I have gleaned a lot of ideas from it.  But no Converse?  Ever again?  Are you kidding me? What are we meant to chase our kids in pray, tell?  Five inch heels Christian Louboutins?  I have going to put this maxim firmly in the ‘wot-ever’ basket and torch it immediately.  For my wedding I had two pair of shoes.  One were these and the other were these.

2.     Short shorts, mini-skirts.  This isn’t really a bone of contention with me as even at my lightest/skinniest I just didn’t have the legs for shorts/skirts anyway.  However I do believe in the miracle of the opaque tights so I say if you have the legs go for it. But follow that rule of low top or high hemline, never both.  Some rules are sacred.

3.      Long hair as you get older.  When I give birth to some sproglets I will probably shear off all my hair, and probably do it myself too.  If you have ever held a baby for any length of time you will know about their love of grabbing a fistful of hair.   So while I am childless I intend to grown my hair as long as possible and see how far I can get.   It’s a science experiment I tell my Mum whenever she nags me to get my hair cut.

4.      Natural hair colours.  Sorry too late already dyed it fun colour when I was meant to be revising a couple of months ago.  Not sure about pink or green, but blue and purple are my jam.

5.       No crop tops, the nearest thing that I own to a crop top is this and it is a bit on the short side.  You can own a crop top if you layer it over a dress or a tank top which is what I do.

Generally a lot of the rules were made up with matron-like-people who dictated them to others who started following them.  However it is always good to consider what works for one person may not work for you *.  So at the end of the day do what you want.

*I think for me I have never had a complete killer body so I have never dressed with a bunch of skin on show, with the exception of bikini, etc.  Rule of thumb is if you can dance, run and climb trees in it without flashing someone you’re good to go.

Any other dressing rules over 30?  Have you given up certain things because you couldn’t get away with them or are you still rocking them?

Thanks for reading

20-ish MORE things you learn for running/training and finishing a halfmarathon. –AKA my after thoughts on Hackney Run.

1.       The night before the big race your feet and toenails suddenly become very important.  Long toenails + swelled up feet from running = nails cutting into feet.  Make sure you nails aren’t cut too straight otherwise your toe and neighbouring toes will be torn to shreds.   Address any other blisters etc which may cause you discomfort on the day.

2.       Looking at the line for the loos about 400 yards off and going for a good old fashioned wee in the bushes.  I really can’t be dealing with loo queue pre-race.  Life is too short and I really couldn’t give a monkeys if people see me.

3.       Chub-rub if your thighs are bit over friendly with each other by design or too much chocolate (hey some people just have big thighs ok.) smother yourself in Vaseline/anti chaff gel, or cut the drama and just get some compression capris/tights.

4.       Or run to the nearest ambulance and beg for Vaseline, and have everyone watch you grease yourself up on the side of the road, thighs and chest area = Awkward.

5.       Train for a half marathon.  I am always amazed at people who don’t train for a half marathon, and rock up on the day wet behind the ears.  You can usually spot them pre-race, they are the people in fashion trainers and cotton clothing.  I actually eavesdropped on a conversation between a bunch of these before the race.

How fast do you run a half marathon, I mean what pace do I go at?”

“Fast. No walking, no stopping”

“What’s the longest you have ever run in one go?”

“About five miles”

Needless to say into mile 3, I saw the same bunch of people drop out and walk back to the start line not looking at anyone in the eye, shame faced.

6.       A good tune-age on the earphones can really uplift your mood when you are starting to flag.  Daft punk, Fat boy slim, Tiesto et al can really get you pumped up to run again.

7.       Interact with the crowd cheering for you, if someone claps/cheers for you wave at them.  If a little kid wants a high five give them a high five.  Spectators really are fantastic, use their enthusiasm to push you on.  During the Hackney run I was astounded at the kindness of the people of Hackney.  Several people thought to hand out ice cold water from their homes, a couple of people where hosing people down with water from their front gardens.  Which in 26 degree heat and running for 1 hour is pure HEAVEN.  I don’t think I could have finished the race without them.  People of Hackney you are truly awesome thank you.

8.       Learn to run in the heat, it’s a lot harder than you think.  I saw double the amount of people passed out on the side of the road.  The heat will really kick you in the gut if you don’t respect it.

9.       SPF the higher the better and sweat proof.  Apply it all day, every day, EVERY DANG DAY people.  Even when you aren’t running.  SPF you need it work it in your skincare routine.

10.   Who are all these women in full make up for a half marathon?  Seriously?  What is the point you are just going to sweat it all off, and get spots as well?

11.   I love to run in the summer, as I breathe through my mouth which cuts down the hay fever.  It’s almost worth the exhaustion to be sneeze free for an hour or two.

12.   Don’t chug down the energy drink/water, sip it a bit at the time, or be that person puking up on the side of the road.

13.   Hydration is really important.   The organisers at Hackney run kept on telling us at the start to ‘Only drink if we needed to’ I think they were warning us already they didn’t order enough water for the event.   Which is what happened to me at mile 6 water station.  Which is completely dangerous and irresponsible, and is what contributed to more people passed out on the side of the road.

14.   I am really sorry to the girl next to me who I accidently spat out all my water on.  Those water packets are really hard to figure out either too much water or not enough, I much prefer a bottle.

15.   Route is so important for training and a half marathon.  Hackney Run was not really a looker the first 6 miles.  The main attraction drawing me in this race was the Olympic park which wasn’t really well routed out, just the queue type running in a loop.  (a bit how like you queue for a ride in Disney land) Also there was a lot of that loop running on dual carriages.  Not quite the Olympic experience I was hoping for.

16.   Milk-maid braids really are the best hair style for running.  No hair touching sweaty shoulders or neck is amazing.

17.   The last mile was the longest mile by far, and seeing the largest amount of people dropping out just before the finishing line is the biggest enabler to make sure the YOU finish yourself.  (i.e take it easy don’t puff yourself out so you can finish)

18.   I rather enjoyed stinking out the Jubilee line on the way home.  Normally I am the first person to complain about smells on public transport, but in this instance I felt justified.  To the snotty girl who commented about the carriage smelling of BO.  It was me and the 10 other people who had just run 13.1miles in 26 degree heat.  Deal with it princess.

19.   Being able to consume as much roast chicken/chocolate/wine as I physically can post-race and not feeling a bit guilty.

20.   Feeling incredibly sore all over afterwards and standing in a ice cold shower.   The pain is quite exquisite, but you know you are going to suffer even more tomorrow.

Thank you for reading, please do share any lovely running stories you may have.  I am always interested to hear them.

Thanks for reading
