Gloanna 5K Yoga Run

So in my usual fashion before most races I tend to get a bit overexcited that it is the weekend. Which in my book means that I go out for a social beer, or a meal out, and end up traipsing in the front door in the wee hours.   I think it’s the prospect of having a whole 48 hours to do whatever I blooming like that leads to it.  I don’t know why I do this to myself, I clearly cannot bounce back from benders like I used to…….

Last Friday eve, my husband and I caught up with some good friends, and well one thing lead to another.  (It involved a lot of old skool RnB and copious amounts of gin)  I ended up getting to bed at 3.30am on Saturday morning.   I had a race start of 8.30am in Battersea park.  To say I felt rough, would have been a minor understatement.   I was very tempted to blow the whole thing off and stay in bed, however I had invited two of my good friends along to the event so off I went.

After spending most of the journey from SE London to SW London feeling like I was going to vom at any second I finally found my friends.   We headed to the venue, checked in our bags in the tent.   After a quick warm up we were handed a shot of Prosecco, which instantly gave me hair of the dog.  I started to feel a lot better.   When I woke I fully intended to walk the whole 5k, but found myself running non-stop, and finishing within 30mins.  Not bad for a hungover bum monkey.

We then had a 45mins session of yoga al fresco which was truly excellent.   I haven’t practiced any yoga for about 18months.  After one too many bad experiences at the Bikram Yoga clasess, I decided to turn my back on the yoga.   The teacher was very funny and lead us through a series of sun salutations, by the end of it I felt calm and soothed.  By this point the hangover had disappeared and I felt like a million bucks.

After both exercise sessions my friends and I found some bean bags to sit on and catch up.  It was very chilled and really lovely environment.   The organisers did feed us quite a bit of food along with freebie of bounce balls and Vitacoco juices.   (I totally stocked up)  The sushi they served us was lovely.  After the food my friends and I decided to have a go at hula hooping lessons that were also taking place.  My friend Katie was an absolute pro at it, and we had a complete blast laughing while we did this.  To top the event off we were given a lovely goody bag with running socks, a water bottle and a sweaty betty vest.

The whole morning was brilliant, and I had an absolute ball.   If any of you see this event for next year I do recommend that you go, it is so much fun.

Any yoga, running events you are going to this summer?  Do tell?

Thanks for reading.
