Three of a kind pressed powder compacts.
So I realise of late I have been promoting a lot of expensive products by their billy. I haven’t posted a ‘three of a kind’ post for a wee while. Believe it or not I have like a massive list of specific items that I want to do 'three of a kind' posts on, it’s just inevitable I have only one of that product, or I have two, one cheap and one expensive. Believe it or not I don’t have three of everything, well I try not have (greedy make up troll Carrie). I don’t know, I think it’s a bit of a cop out to do a review on just one thing, or two things as it just doesn’t fit with the format. I may have to buck up my ideas and start doing that. I like the three of a kind, because it guarantees an cheapie cheep dupe option. So moving on......
Okay so powder is something I struggle with. I find one and I just stick with it for months and months without changing. I've branched out a bit and purchased a couple powders which I love. I wanted something that makes the texture of my skin look different and not just bog standard Matte face. Which don't get me wrong I like sometimes, but other times I crave for something different.
Hourglass ambient lighting powders £38 from Space NK online and in store
Yes I got sucked into the hyped and got one of the Hourglass ambient powders. These come in severally different variations that are meant to correct and alter how the light hits your face. There are also colour corrective ones, so I think 'mood light' is a purplely pink, and 'diffused light' is a primrose yellow. I got 'dim light' which is a lovely peachy beige, peach of course is a brightening colour that lifts the complexion. It has a bit of sparkle in it, and you can dust this over your face. You don't look like a glitter bomb using this all over the face. I normally set my makeup with this and it gives you a lovely luminous glow. It doesn't set my make up for long, so I need to do at least two touch ups during the day.
Les Bieges Chanel £38 Selfridges online
Well aside for the fact that this compact is blooming beautiful this has a couple of benefits. This was made for a ‘breezy-out doorsey-I have been in the sun all afternoon make up’ the advert has the delectable Gisele on it. This is a lovely light powder finely milled powder with a little luminosity to it. This applied does not give you a matte base, but a sets your make up naturally, like you have been out breezey-out doorsey- I have been in the sun all afternoon… you get the gist. So this isn’t going to set your make up for 8 hours, max 2-3 (so you need to keep whipping this baby out to powder you nose, not that I mind because it’s pretty). I would use this when I have a light base on (either spf and concealer or just a tinted moisturiser). Do I need this no absolutely not, do I want/lust/love this absolutely yes!
Rimmel Clear Complexion clarifying powder £3.99 available boots, superdrug in store and online.
So I came across this powder when I used to read a blog called ‘the gloss goss’ but this beautiful girl called Talia, I think she was Croatian. Basically she was/is a goddess, and had a massive budget to spend on clothes, shoes, handbags and make up, from where who knows? I didn’t buy everything that she reviewed or had, because I simply don’t have that kind of cash to burn every month. BUT, but, but, but it was really fun living vicariously through her, she had a Shoe and Bag collection to die for (she bought two Balenciaga bags within a week of each other HELLO? Money bags!?!). Sadly Talia moved to Canada and her blog is no more.
Any-hoo I digress she recommended this powder, and at the time I could never get my mitts on it because every man and his dog had cottoned on it was the bees knees. Thankfully Rimmel have sorted out their supply chain and I see it all the time in boots, super drug etc. This powder is finely milled and translucent so most people can use this, and it can give you a matte look to your face dependant on how you apply. If you just want something a little less matte and want to get the shine off you can press with powder pouffe the nose forehead etc. Fully on matte I use the powder brush and go to town. I have recommended this powder to so many people and they love it. My mum is on her second compact.
The only only gripe I have with this is that it is incredible delicate. I have gone through 3 where I have taken them in the handbag and they have smashed, and it basically looks like I’ve dumped a bag of flour in my bag. The packaging just will not stand up to wear and tear. Which is a shame because I love this product, and the cheap plastic makes me think twice about taking it out with me. Come on sort it out Rimmel!
Hope that was helpful, do you have any recommendations for powder?
What luminous powders are you loving right now?
Thanks for reading
Carrie x
